Mathieu Le Sourd Maotik da, bere lana multimedia ingurugiroetan eta ikuskizun generatiboetan oinarritzen duen artista frantsesa. Bere obra munduan zehar aurkeztua izan da, Montrealeko Mutek Festivalean, Rio de Janerioko Live Cineman, Pragako Signal Festivalean, Londreseko British Film Institutean edo Linzeko Ars Electronican, esaterako.

2011ean Moment’s Factory talde interaktiboaren parte izanik, Le Sourdek hainbat proiektu garrantzitsu burutu zituen. Horietako bi Los Angeleseko aireportuan kokatutako esperientzia multimedia eta Nine Inch Nails taldearen bira internazionalaren bisualak dira. 2013an Mutek Festivalaren barruan Montrealeko SATospheren DROMOS peformance txalotua aurkeztu zuen.

Beti erronka berriak bilatuz, Le Sourdek bere erremienta bisual propioak garatzen ditu algoritmoz osatutako animazioak eta espazioaren pertzepzioa eraldatzen duten 3D munduak eratuz. Aldi berean, Maotikek artearen, zientziaren eta teknologiaren arteko erlazioa aztertzen jarraitzeko musikari, soinu-artista eta zientifikoekin etengabe aritzen da lanean.

Azken urteetan gure zeruan objektu hegalarien testigo izan gara. Teknologoak, sortzaileak eta artistak tecnología hauek erabiltzen dituzte argazki paisajistak eta film sekuentzialak lortzeko, zeintzuk enpresa eta instituzioak gailu horietaz jabetzen dira pertsonak kontrolatzeko eta zaintzeko. Geroz eta munduko armada gehiago dron militarrak erabiltzen dituzte eta esaten da laister policía patrullak ordezkatuko dituztela hiriko segurtasun lanetan. «Anai handiaren» mehatxua makinak munduaren jabe izango direla oinarritzen da. Etorkizuneko erabilpen horiek itzulezinak?

Artistak AERYON aurkeztuko digu: zaintzako dron baten bisioaren interpretazio artistikoa da, bere argumentazioa hasierako puntutik garatzen dena. Hasierako fase honetan, bi paitailetan montaje bat proiektatzen da: bat non nabegazioa agertzen den mapa erreal baten aurrean eta bestea non kartografia ikuskizun poetikoko interpretazio batean bihurtzen den. Koloreko mapa baten aurrean efketuetaz sortutako kartografia, pixel maparen guntzioaren arabera sistemak bisualki erreakzionatzen du eta informazioa laino puntu batzuetan bihurtuko du. Elementu geometrikoetaz baliatuko da dronetatik ikusten dugun patroi naturalak sortzeko – mendiak, itsasoak, basoak, hiriak – forma bisual zehatzak izango dira. Beste informazio elementu batzuk barneratuko dira – adibidez, hirien tamaña, biztanleria, haizearen indarra edo predikzio meteorologikoak – horrela ikuskizunari parametro gehiago barneratuz. Gainera, GPS datuak erabiliko dira informazio sonoraren datuak lortzeko (irrati frekuentziak lortzeko) eta horrela drona biltzen duen soinu generatiboaren informazioa jasotzeko, performer-aren nabegazioaren arabera garatzen joango dena ere.

French digital artist, Mathieu Le Sourd (Maotik) focuses his work on the creation of immersive multimedia environments and generative visuals. His work has recently been presented in various festivals around the world, such as Mutek Festival, Live Cinema in Rio, Signal Festival in Prague, the British Film Institute in London and ARS Electronica in Linz.

As lead of Moment Factory’s interactive team in 2011, Le Sourd produced several large-scale projects including a multimedia experience in the new terminal at Los Angeles International Airport as well as the visuals for Nine Inch Nails’ world tour. In 2013, he produced the critically-acclaimed immersive multimedia performance DROMOS, which was presented at the SATosphere in Montreal as part of Mutek festival.

Always in search of new challenges, Le Sourd designs his own visual tools; generating animations from algorithms and creating 3D worlds to transform perceptions of space. He collaborates with musicians, sound artists and scientists in order to continue his research into the relationship between art, science and technology.

During the last few years we have been witnessing the emergence of “flying objects” in our sky. Creative technologists and artists use this technology to capture landscape images and also film sequences. Therefore companies and institutions use it as a surveillance monitor to track individuals. Military drones are increasingly used by armies around the world, and it is said that in a near future they will replace the police patrols for urban security. It is the threat of big brother hovering or even a world where machines have taken over. Is this will lead to irreversible future uses?

The artist is going to present AERYON: is an artistic interpretation of a surveillance drone vision where the story line evolves according to its starting location. At this early stage we can imagine a setup of two screens where one screen shows the navigation on a real map and the other one transform the cartography into a poetic visual interpretation. Using a color map of custom-mage cartography, the generative visual system will react according to the pixel map and will transform the information into a point cloud. Geometry instances will be used to recreate the natural patterns that we can sometimes contemplate from a drone. All patterns such a mountains, ocean, forest or cities will have a specific visuals aspect. Other information such as the size of the cities, the number of inhabitants, wind force or weather forecast, just to name a few of them could be added in order to give more parameters to the visual composition. GPS information will also be used to retrieve sound information from a specific location (radio frequencies) and add this information to the “Drone” generative surround sound composition that will also evolve according to the navigation of the performer.
